Monopolies in any industry is not a good idea due to the fact it does not leave room for choice or an independant choice take sky tv for an example they have brought the rights for top football matches as well as top end motor sports such as F1 this leaves no room for any competitor to compete as the moneis involved for bidding for such sports are at an all time high and with companies such as channel 4 and BBC not having the same funds avalible as sky it is hard to for them to compete in the bidding process.
The other side is you get a bias opioion from one direction such as news reports wheather it is political or not where with the BBC you get a indpendant view as the BBC is not a privatley owned company
